This week I am researching and testing my mockup ideas for my narrative stories. I want to mock it up in two forms, one digital and one printed media.
1. Similar to a indie video game trailer – click through trailer.
2. Adult picture book

My investigation into forms of digital media has moved me into both a visual and audio space.

Book publication is a wonderful traditional form of show and tell, however we have moved into an era of design and communication which supports wonderful new methods of digital storytelling.

INDIE GAMES

Gorogoa

In James Robert’s indie masterpiece Gorogoa, he has created hundreds of rich interactive panels, following an underlying, beautiful yet somber story. the game lays out plenty of clues and organic nudges to guide you through

As Gorogoa is a puzzle game, the style of traditional media used gives a unique feeling to the game, unlike many other puzzle games released recently. You are interacting digitally with the textures of a physical storybook.

Coloured pencils, charcoal and water-based inks.

As my own work has a very traditional feel to it, I was inspired to include more of my physical charcoal artworks in my digital mockup. Especially in the section of story that shifts into greys and blacks, with a smoky, poisonous atmosphere. Overlaying charcoal or inky elements would further enhance the ambience of environmental death.

Gorogoa is truly a piece of art, I want to use this idea in my own work.

Ori and the Blind Forest

Ori and the Blind Forest is too technical for the style which I am creating, however I adore the sound design in this game. The ambience of rain, gusty winds and musical elements immerse the user in the environment, more than just the visuals do.
As my story is set in a house and garden, I wish to immerse people in the sounds of these areas. Birds, windchimes, crachling fireplace and the turning of paper in novels.

GRIS

GRIS has a selection of beautiful photographic animations, where only a small section is moving.
