Formative Presentation on Wednesday
Original Outcome:
Kids Kit ]: Website design and photographic assets for advertisement
The website I create will be the main hub which holds all elements of our sustainable kit project. It will have a child like quality but be aimed at lecturers. I will design the layout, hierarchy, colour scheme and write website content. To do this I will conduct research into the anatomy of website pages, visual and technical; Image and text placement, video integration and motion graphic coding if applicable. Alongside this I will design and shoot a series of advertisement photographs of our sustainable kit, the making of and use of it.

NEW MINDSET – We have changed our audience as a group.
My thought process regarding our new direction:
Our journey is not one with a map, we are finding interesting places. We are thinking to raise the age of our target audience, as with all of the ethical requirements its getting more problematic. we realized certain problems in our ideation and research. our audience is not reachable without extensive ethics. It would likely take a year to get all of these ethics forms and requirements filled out correctly, along with the actual project design. Our project is evolving and we may need to rephrase our research problem to match a new audience.
We need to change our mindset.
We decided this week to still keep our problem and projects in the realm of environmental education but not curricular. Our new age demographic is targeting university students, This age change will open us to more opportunity regarding influence and action.
I believe that university students have a malleable mindset for a few more years, and are much more open to new ideas and change. A younger audience may not understand the environmental concepts we are trying to teach, while an older audience will likely be set in their ways and think “oh. I will not be affected by this in the future. Nothing has happened yet from me changing my actions, why would it matter now.” I raised an idea with Maria last week during our group meeting that when young kids are in school, there’s cliques. Whatever the ‘cool’ kids want to wear , say and do dictates how other kids react to situations. If one cool kid thinks that the environment is stupid, then other will follow blindly. You care less how your peers see you once you get to university. The pressure is still there, but it is a lot easier to go choose your own path.
I have noticed also that environmentalism has become the ‘good, cool’ thing again, especially as the social influence to be ‘eco’ increases. Uni students are growing their own plants, keeping herbs in the kitchen and using reusable cups much more often now than I have ever seen, myself included.
WEBSITE OUTCOME
My design outcome has changed from the Kids Kit-main hub to a fully personal interactive website/digital space. This space will host an interactive, narrative story, implementing the idea of sustainability and small environmental action into the mind of the user/reader. It will be colourful, bold and meaningful.
