Hamilton Gardens – cultural experience in NZ… group trip!

When reflecting on environmental issues, growing up in Asia there are beautiful natural environments. Travelling to England and spending two months in the barren lands of Yorkshire, where concrete buildings and large roads were the unknown, unwanted thing.

Interactive experience art exhibition, similar to van gogh or artec house exhibitions.

Transition bewtween protected environment and heritage, to human kind history, to indigenous.
How many cultures do we need to focus on?

Folklores and stories have things that they tell for generations to make sure popele look after the land through ora hisotries. way to not farm the land and not take all of it and leaving nothing behind its stewardhip. western culture, we have through the witches in europe, potions was knowledge about plant medicine was important. and then it was pushed under by the church. human asocieteeies have been exisiting and not ruining the world for millions of years, we need to bring that back into current society and the current way of thinking.

art is made to tell a story or provoke an emotion. we are influencing tehv iewer to feel or think or something. whatever we create, like a book, a publication is way to give the viewer information that they may not know already, or tools to look after the earth in their own way, for esample tools to live in a city and be more environemntal friendly

China has done a lot for the environment.

Rome Club, convention of all world leaders plus interpreters in the 70s. large field of science called imitation modelling – forrester. model immitation global processes on earth. Within 50 years, earth is fucked as the polution wuold reach levels where the farmable land would mess up. limits of growth – book – need to start thinking about the environment. sustainability examining the earth under simulations. the critic was that we will get beautiful super fast technology that will solve all problems. the minute the envirion,ent effected the prgress of science, woul be before it would be able to solve it. its going according to a not good scenario. globally we are somewhat fucked. environmentallists are saying we should go nuclear.

why is everyone so focussed on 2050? everyone wants to fix the earth by 2050. repor by oxford scientist who modelled gloabal warming, they thought if the whole word started carbon emmisions by 2050, itll take 300 years to return to the previous safe temperatures. to start cooling down. by that point we will have lost plant species and animal species. its exponential.

not planitng the right species of plants in new zealand, the earths resorouces are finite. the new intorduced species are taking away the resources fro the old ones, we are not ocnciously creating a biodivierse environment as some native species take much too long to grow. In auckland we just plant plants for the sake of planting trees. eg American palms take only a year to grow while manuka takes ten years. then they cut down all of our native trees in the suberb.

normal city with the occasional maori influence in logos and subtitles. how can we use design to make the city a friendlier and more diverse space. insertable culture inpired things inside the city, eg road signs and sewage covers, breaking the code and making something unique.in wellington, the sewage covers have a Maori pattern. patterned bricks to pavements. making culture visible.

new mythologies. graphic novels wth a new mythology, based not in basic morality, substitute with sustainability. a demon who will eat your fingers if you drop a cigarette butt. wendigo etc. in maori cuture theres a creature that is the loud, snow and water. all of them live under one thing and the story is about how they interact. russian culture theres a spirit that lives in thesauna. if you hear a laugh at night you have to leave immediately. house spirit, supposed to exist in every house, he gets unhappy if you dont keep the space tidy. little gremlin

make a kids book or comic surrounding theses ideas. allows us to go into the realm of design.
